New international standards to help genebanks worldwide  conserve plant diversity in a more efficient and cost-effective manner were endorsed on Thursday April 18 by FAO's  Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. The Genebank Standards are guiding the genebank management of seeds, germplasm maintained in field collections, as well as conserved through cryopreservation and in vitro culture. The ECPGR Working Groups and the Secretariat contributed to the development of these standards that they will be used as an important reference for AEGIS.
