The first issue of Genetic Resources has just been published and is available at: https://www.genresj.org/index.php/grj/issue/current.

In an editorial, representatives from the European Genetic Resources Secretariats (ECPGR, ERFP and EUFORGEN) and partners in GenRes Bridge provide some background on the inception of this new journal, as well as on its scope and future ambition in serving the community.

The first issue contains a featured review spearheaded by the Commission of Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) at FAO, in which the authors describe our current status of knowledge on GRFA and highlight open questions and knowledge gaps where more research is needed in the future. True to the inclusive scope of the journal, this review addresses plant, animal and forest genetic resources as well as aquatic and microbial genetic resources.

Several original articles and short communication provide examples of the diversity of topics that Genetic Resources is interested in publishing. They address policy issues associated with access and benefit-sharing and genetic resources management, provide an example of data analysis for GR conservation efforts, recommendations for SSR markers in GR management and a practical report from a national genebank on their activities to improve their collections.

Genetic Resources is a new journal managed by the ECPGR Secretariat providing a platform for diverse stakeholders and practitioners in genetic resources to publish and share their research.
